Waterbomb

Fall 2024

Project Title: Observation and Intuition (Furniture studio)

Date: 5 weeks

Size: 20 x 24 x 4 in

Medium: Crepe fabric, fusible interfacing, purple foam

Problem Statement: To introduce an innovative system designed to accommodate future living habits.

Objective: To create a waterbomb tessellation cushioning structure, combining fabric and foam to create a solid yet dynamic form.

Skills: Cultural research, paper folding, CNC, photoshop

The design incorporates a parametric shape, highlighting the fluid, dynamic qualities of the waterbomb tessellation. Ideal for compact living spaces, such as small homes or studios, this system provides multifunctional solutions for resting areas and spatial division.

This versatile system can be integrated into various furniture applications, such as low seating tiles and room dividers. For seating, the tessellation enables an opening and closing motion that responds to user movement or applied force, offering a unique and comfortable experience. When used as a room divider, the grooves in the structure provide sound-dampening properties, enhancing acoustic comfort.
