Problem Statement: The students were asked to design and create a chess set based on a theme and story they chose, using whatever sculptural and aesthetic capabilities they have using the digital modeling and and visualization tools and skills they have. They were required to deliver a full physical & usable chess set along with the digital 3D models and renderings.
Objective: To design a chess set focusing on ergonomics, how chaess players grab chess pieces while playing.
Skills: Solidworks, Keyshot, Illustrator
This chess set design was inspired by how chess players hold chess pieces. Having volume and light weight on the top head part and heavy weight on the base part will balance out the chess pieces. Chess players can stably move their pieces while playing the chess. The form was inspired by king’s scepter which represents authority that plays an important role in this game.
